Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) is one of the Rapid Prototyping methods. SYSCAE s.r.o. owns the EOSINT P 360 manufacturing equipment that sinters thermoplastic powdered media with a laser beam.

The purpose of this modern technology is to convert a product from its computer 3D model into a real prototype part as quickly as possible, in this case within hours to tens of hours.

First, the 3D model delivered in formats such as CATIA, STL, MGX, IGES, VDA is adjusted, optimized, and then converted to a set of layers with a thickness of 0.15 mm, i.e. the step in which the product is sintered.

The powder is pantographically applied in the thickness of a step to a platform in the working chamber. The contour of product shape belonging to a given layer is first circumscribed by the laser and then melted on by the laser beam. After the layer is finished, the platform sinks by one 0.15mm step and the partial melting process is repeated. A ballast, thermally unaffected loose working medium serves for fixing the product in the working chamber container.

The working medium is thermoplastic granulate with a grain diameter of 0.08-0.1 mm. SYSCAE s.r.o. uses the following types of materials:

Pa 2200 - pure polyamide for the production of prototype parts resistant to mechanical stress. Well workable.

Pa 3200Gf - polyamide with 30% of glass powder with a higher hardness and resistance against abrasion. Less workable.

Primecast - polystyrene for the production of models for metal part casting using the investment pattern method. Well workable.

    SLS application:
    - Production of prototype parts with complex shape.
    - Production of models for investment casting of metals.
    - Production of master models for the creation of silicon molds that allow producing a series of 20-50 completely identical polyurethane models with the required color, including clear parts.

    SLS benefits:
    - Minimizing the manufacturing time for a prototype.
    - Favorable price and time of manufacture in comparison with cutting operations.
    - Surface treatment by painting as well as metal coating is possible.

Prototype made by SLS should be used as fully-functional model for presentation and testing purposes!
